DIY: Oversized Envelope Clutch

I have seen these oversized envelope clutches everywhere but haven’t found one that I loved enough to spend atleast $20 on. Naturally, I decided to give it a try myself. Easy enough right?

Here’s what I ended up with:

Now you can DIY, but first you will need:

  • Leather
  • Another piece of fabric. (I had some extra velvet laying around so I chose to use that as my inner material, but you can use whatever material you prefer)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Measuring Tape

Cut two equal pieces to the size you want the clutch.

Place two pieces of fabric on top of each other so the “right” sides are facing each other.

Make sure both pieces line up perfectly and sew ONLY the bottom part.

Measure two equal lines in the shape of your flap, pin, and sew across.

Cut the excess material off, but be sure not to cut the seam.

Flip the top flap so the leather is showing. Use your finger or gently use the scissors to push the point out. Now its time to sew the bottom half (which should still be inside out as shown below).

Once you have done that, flip the bottom half so the leather is showing.

Voila! Now go DIY!

DIY: Magazine Table

Who doesn’t have a crap load of old magazines laying around? Time to put them to use. Create a nightstand or side table next to your favorite chair. Pick out a couple magazines (depending how high or low you prefer) and stack them. This literally takes two seconds and it’s a cool interior look for any room.

Peep mine:

I stacked bigger/thicker magazines at the bottom and top – making the table strong and robust. Not enough fashion magazines? Try it with books. I used to have carpet in my room, so I know it works on that as well.
